
So, with that sound base, Ms Clare has written a thrilling story built around a love story that is realistic and exciting. While McKinnon's rangers are a fictional group, they are accurately patterned after ranger groups that were active on the American frontier during the 17th & 18th century. Having read a number of fiction and non fiction works about this period, I am familiar enough with it to see that Ms Clare has done her homework and brought the truth of the time to the fiction of her story. Obviously in a historical novel, the story must be true to the history. Now to judge the story there are a number of things I look for.


Griffith does an outstanding job with realistic accents and emphasis making his reading truly a performance not just a reading.
